This is a short version of the site in English with the most important information about Balkan folk dances in Dublin. The more popular terms are Bulgarian folk dances, Greek folk dances etc., however, folk dances from the region, in some cases spread beyond today's administrative borders of the countries. I look at ethnographic regions and research the folk dances. I chose to use the name Balkan folk dances as a collective. During the regular classes I point out the region(s) where the dances are known to the best of my knowledge.
The name is not the interesting part of the folk dances - it is the variety of their meters, steps, and styles! Irregular meters are widespread on the peninsula (especially in Bulgaria) and they open, even to the most experienced musicians / dancers, another world of the music.
